Hello all, I've been playing NS4 for over a month now, and some ideas popped out of my mind while I played. I don't know if the NWN engine allows these things, but I though about sharing them anyway.
First, I love the way my character look, and sometimes I hate the way that Neverwinter Nights forces us to use some gear that change my appearance because otherwise you are left behind other players. So, here are some ideas:
- Make headgear that does not hide the character face. I find weird when I see mages in robes using a metal helm, for example, and I would like to see some warriors walking around with their faces. Some characters are cool when they are all clad in battle, using full armor and helms, but others are coolers when they walk around with their faces being shown (imagine the mage with just a robe, no helm, or a barbarian with amazon gear, showing chest and face).
- Normal clothing. I like normal clothing (specially Squire's Tunic and other clothing with sleeves and boots). Look at the civilian NPCs around the world and in the campaigns, and you will see a lot of nice-looking characters with all kinds of clothing. It would be cool to have cloth armor that look like normal clothing but has special properties, like armor or dodge bonus to AC, bonus to certain skills or spells and protections from elemental damage. If you ever played NWN campaign with a character that had the Craft Armor skill, you know how varied clothing can look. It was cool making sexy cloth for my female characters or just making a cool shirt-and-pants combo for my characters in general.
Second, non-standard items:
- Off-hand items: Currently, only shields, weapons and torchs can be used off-handed. If it is possible to make "shields" that have no graphics, I would like to suggest creating special "shield" items that grant no AC bonus nor shield penalties, but instead give special properties, like extra spell slots, spell-like abilities with limited uses by day or extra feats. It would be cool to give a spellcaster a special off-hand "Grimoire" that added spells slots, or give a warrior who fights with a single one-hand weapon some extra feats or feat combinations. Also, off-hand items with ability boosts would be welcome.

Additional Ideas
Oh, I forgot to add in the above post:
- Make torches useful beyond giving light. I mean, normal torches could just give light, but it would be cool to have special torches, like a torch that gives bonus AC against undead or evil creatures or create auras around the character. Some torches could also emanate light of different colors, if possible, and protect against good. Others could add fire or holy damage to your attacks or give cold protection, for example.

Thanks for your ideas. Some quick responses:

Can't be done with the current engine - wait for NWN2.Make headgear that does not hide the character face

Well, if you're a clothing wearing character (DEX based), there's plenty of robes, skimpy vests, and 'clothing' around. If you're a plate wearer, then...you'll be wearing plate... You can put robes over plate armor, so it still looks like robes, but that seems kinda cheesy if you ask me.Normal clothing
Some of your ideas for bonuses are already applied to the player via the player skin and are gained by specific subraces, faction jobs, and also for the upcoming pure class bonuses. You can't suppress the visual on the shields though I don't believe. Not a bad idea though.Off-hand items
Now that I like.Make torches useful beyond giving light

Thanks for the answer. Let me comment some of your points:
What a pity! If it can't be done, then it can't. I would love the option to not wear helms.Flailer wrote:Can't be done with the current engine - wait for NWN2.Make headgear that does not hide the character face
I know there are cloth armor around the world and in the shops. My point was to add more cloth armor that looks more like normal clothing and less like armor. You know, like the options you have when you are creating your character, or like clothing that NPCs civilians usually use. I've yet to see things like that in the world (or maybe I am just looking in the wrong places).Well, if you're a clothing wearing character (DEX based), there's plenty of robes, skimpy vests, and 'clothing' around. Once again, it is a pity we can't do that. Sometimes I wish to have a character that would carry nothing in his off-hand, like a duelist with just a rapier (and an invisible special item in the off-hand).You can't suppress the visual on the shields though I don't believe. Not a bad idea though.

Actually, you can't do that here, since the HotU crafting system which enables it is disabled here (due to the exploitable nature of it).Flailer wrote:You can put robes over plate armor, so it still looks like robes, but that seems kinda cheesy if you ask me.

Well, okay - let me rephrase that then: you can't do it as a player, but I as a developer can - that's not disabled in the toolset.Elagneros wrote:Actually, you can't do that here, since the HotU crafting system which enables it is disabled here (due to the exploitable nature of it).Flailer wrote:You can put robes over plate armor, so it still looks like robes, but that seems kinda cheesy if you ask me.

So remember all those books that you randomly find in the official NWN campaigns that have history and story info that nobody liked to find? I saw somewhere that they had given books random 1use/day type spells for wizards and sorcerers. It is basically like a scroll that doesn't burn itself up on use. They generally didn't have great spells on them but were kind of fun. Although with the plethera of scrolls dropping now days maybe there's no reason for something like that.
Are there any spell sequencing items in NS4?

no sequencers and i don't think its going to be added..just part of the low magic server philosiphy.
something that might want to be added is a vendor script for the magic shops. i know i know. the magic economy is supposed to be player driven and run. however, i do think that raise scrolls and most scrolls that are not scrollable should be sold by the magic shops.
since unscrollables make up a vast majority of spells that you can't purchase it is something that you must find. this is a very time consuming effort to find one exact scroll.
raise scrolls should be sold for as much as full heal potions from elvin or more. that way not everyone has 500+ scrolls, but everyone has access to them without all the metagaming or waiting to find a person nice enough to sell you some.

if i didn't do it...someone else would have.
