amazing uberness of... plain boxes?

Post by disastro »

sorry for the truly n00b question, but why are boxes worth so much money? I sold a pair for 500,000 gold and I couldnt tell if i was getting a rapaciously good deel or getting the short end of some unimaginable stick. a plain, empty, non-weight-reducing box. and not even a rare drop, in the week or so we've been here i've found 4 and my friend found 3, all on kobolds and such.

now as a low level loser i definitely needed the cash more than i needed inventory space (especially since i dont have the str to even fill up my regular inventory pages) so I think i did the right thing, but now I am curious as to how things work around here.

-should i start hoarding boxes?
-does the average high level toon have billions of dollars and nothing to spend it on, so 500k is chump change?
-do i need to start saving cash now for some incredibly expensive required purchase that will set me back millions of gold?

thanks!

They are worth alot, not 500.000 tho, cous they do drop on low lvl critters, and high lvl chars dont whant to spend a week killing kobolds to get koffers :p

so I'm guessing there's no way to buy or otherwise obtain containers of any kind? any weight reducing containers out there?

dont mean any disrespect, i was just very surprised at getting such a deal on what seemed like a common item that I started to think about how the economy works here.

I personally dont pay more than 100k a piece for them.
They are valuable to high level players because
1. we like to hoard gear and inventory space is always short. :P
2. they dont drop on high level monsters and we dont want to spend all our time farming gobos for em.
3. yeah, we have loads of gold and nothing to spend it on, other than potions...

Some people have been spending more than I would want to...

Basically it's a convenience thing. Very useful when you're picking up tons of loot and don't get back to your mule to drop it off very often....

so whats so hard about taking your lvl 20 whatever and instead of using dragons or boats to go somewhere, just walk and mow down the low lvl mobs on the way?

Correct. The only way to get containers is from loot or other players. There are no weight-reducing containers of any kind at all.

I will admit, I am the insane one. Over the past few days I've spent about 1.5 mil on 7 boxes.

I've got a devious use for them, and since sometimes money comes cheap, I'd rather spend it on something I won't lose if I die (referring to cash on respawn).

A good rule of thumb though for both the buyer and seller...an items is worth as much as you can afford to pay/receive for it. So in that sense, I do not think I overpayed at all.

well put. I'm just trying to get an idea for the "value of money" on this mod. sounds like the economy here is more item/trade based than cash based (in that there are lots of items worth more than any amount of cash, and there seem to be few cash sinks in the form of stores).

Money gets you places and buys you expendable supplies... that's about it. Trade is much more important when it comes to getting the best equipment.
