Catapults of doom

I love the idea of hellball spawning catapults, but I would prefer if they didn't attack the members of the faction which relic they are defending.
A few minutes ago I wandered into Neversummer castle, with my low HP wizard, to check of our relic was still there when I noticed the new catapult. 12 seconds later I was dead and 1800xp poorer (you can't run far when knocked down). I hope this is some kind of lapsus and this isn't how it's intended to work.

A related problem is that those catapults seem to have an unlimited amount of hellballs, so when you're killed by one there is no way someone is able to ressurect you without a quickened spell. :(

Actually since the Catapult was put near the cradle in sleeth too I saw several new players come out of the Followers Dwelling only to get Hell Balled right off the bat. One of them respawned the other just logged. Probably not the best introduction to the server for them.

lmfao thats the greatest idea i have ever heard of...

is there a way to script it like jin voo's hellball so it doesnt effect friendlys?

that way you can defend and have that as an extra helper

its just a random object that shoots at anyone close enough to it. it has no faction and cares not if your high or low lvl. best advice is, if you don't know what it is..stay away from it.

Not my concerns really but I thought the Devs were concerned about the NS community and not running off new players... Just giving the DMs a heads up about using the Catapults near spawn points and New Player Introduction areas... You did ask why we always tend to blame the DMs for random things that happen on the server. It is because of things like this.

Well i wouldnt mind seeing something like this scripted to a faction and set in the chamber room next to the cradle. give it 1000hp's and a small damage reduction. script it so they dont effect friendlys and everything will be fine, except the rats in ao lol.

i think alittle relic defense is completey plausable if they are truly the relics of the gods you would think the citys would go to great lenghts to defend them.

and maybe change them for each faction, NC could have a holy shrine that smites evil, MA could have a hellball machine, LA could have the light of lathander... ect

Unfortunatly, I believe they were put in to cease the relic wars for a time since every cradle had one and the relics were reset at the same time. However, AOs cradle is right in the middle of everything so it affected more then just relic raiders... We destroyed the one in Sleeth but found the others at the other cradles just before the server reset. They probably wouldn't be so bad if they didn't throw Hellballs every round or so. It took some running around to kill the first one but a well placed entangle from the Minion of Lolth stopped me from using that tactic a second time. :-(

Why was something added to the game that provides extra variety? Damn, that's a hell of a question.....
Serving NS4 proper as Lathander and Sleeth as Bahamut.

Yes, I'm a DM, but your build still sucks.
