Well, ill be upgrading to a newer machine in the next 3-4 months anyways, so i'll prob. hold off on getting Nwn2 until i get it. By then, a cple of patches will prob have been released and the price will have gone down a bit.

NS4 and the people im making on it as friends keep me pretty busy anyways :)

As far as changes to an existing mod, we can do any of several things to keep from redownloading everything. You do need to use more placeables than NWN1, that makes a larger area.git file--so probably minimally as long of a dynamic area load as the largest NS4 area at the least (I think that's the area in the South Road Tower's basement right now...and that's desperately needed reworking for years) regardless of what's already downloaded (terrain + walkmesh).

Gildren, I'm playable on AMDX2 3800, GeForce7800GT at highish settings so far in act 1. Shadows are performance killer, so is full water...but these aren't things I want to live without either ;) You don't want to know what Chase is running it on

There's lots to like dev-wise in NWN2 v. NWN1: The toolset is nice, there's some engine fixes that are no end of annoyance in NWN1, etc... Playwise it needs more polish, controls are ok but clunkier than NWN1 these days (with lots missing/undocumented).

If you haven't allready, you should also get the first patch, apperently the camera was fixed up a little to help with the controls.

Ofcouse I haven't tried it yet since its not out here yet (or atleast I haven't picked it up)

I'd look at a 256MB card, GeForce 7600 minimum, something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130062 but would recommend something 79xx nVidia or x19xxABC for ATI that runs 512MB of texture memory.

The game needs optimization and will probably get some, but there's only so much they can do with full per-pixel lighting. It looks great, but isn't going to scale down well.

i've got an athlon x2 4200 / 6800gt / 2 gb ram rig and I had to turn everything off to get smooth camera turning. still looks ok but with any of the nicer options set the framerate drops into the low teens and the chop is unbearable to me. right now the best framerate i can get is around 30 (with no action going on.)

new nvidia cards are due out next week (at what looks like whopper pricing). they will be directx 10 capable but from what i can tell dx10 wont even ship with vista (probably in a later service pack), and after that it will be another year or so before any games come out that use dx10.

so I went ahead and did the dumb thing and bought a 7950 gx2 now. :)

I'm running fine.

I cut down the number of lights to 2 and things run well for me.

I've got a 3.2E Pentium 4 with 3 GB of PC3200 combined with a 7600GT AGP graphics card. My 6800 GT bit the dust a while back so I had to get a new card.

The interface is REALLY clunky as far as I'm concerned. Things just don't feel as precise as they do on NWN1. It's got the same kind of turn-offs for me as Age of Empires III does with their engine. Sure, things look great, but the cursor shows what's part of the map, not the actual map. Kind of screwy that way.

I'm playing a Warlock now which is just insanely fun. I get a good melee guy in front and my Warlock just dishes the spells left and right. And lots of pretty colours.

mmmm, i think i am glad i didnt run out and buy it  .....nwn doesnt do it for me as a single player game ....so i have my doubts about buiying it initially anyways - i figure it will take some time to get a online world up and running....maybe by then the price will drop 10 bucks , and i can use the money i saved to buy some happy beverages ! :D

regardless, i intend to keep ns4 as my home..
sorry to dissapoint anyone who wants to get rid of me

just got my 7950gt and it's all looking good. nvidia released new drivers that have "magic" settings for nwn2 and they REALLY help... tripled my frame rate with shadows/bloom effects activated.

the gameplay/controls do sort of suck, but in options you have to do several things to unsuckify it:

1. set your context menu delay to minimum. yes, you CAN right click on stuff, but by default you have to hoooooold the right mouse button. shorten the delay in options and the game really does change entirely.

2. set auto run action and the other option just below it (first 2 options in that section basically,i forget what they are called.) that lets you chain spells on selected targets. the big change is that you no longer need to "cast. click, cast , click " etc for buffing or attacking. just select the target once (nothing happens by default except for making the target "active", THEN start hitting all your spell or action hotkeys. no need to click after every cast... very useful for the buffing types.

edit: reflections server down today? been trying to get in for hours.

Seems to work okay for the single player part.... but I am using pause a fair deal which of course is not possible on NS

it is only partly because the NPCs are dumber than wood (they are). But simple stuff like targetting enemies with a spell or just attack them is really, really hard.

Camera controls are okay after patching and setting options to fastest. But they should have kept the dial and quickbar interface.
