Question concerning HiPS...

Post by Lorkar1 »

Now before some of you get all worked up about the subject, this is not a request to fix, nerf or extend the feat in question.

(1) Is there a penalty to your hide and move silently when trying to use this feat in a group of creatures? And by group I mean more than 3.

Or

(2) Do groups get a bonus to their spot?

I ask this because when I use HiPS with my Rogue(notice I said Rogue not Mage LOL), anytime there are less than 3 wolves it goes off without a hitch (meaning no more than 2 hits of the stealth button).
But when there are more than 3 it has taken as many as 6 attempts. I ask this for the simple reason that I would like to know what to expect once I head into the deadlier areas of this mod.

Each MOB has a chance to spot.... so the more MOBs the beter chance of failure.
Light a fire for for some one and keep them warm for a night....Light someone on fire and keep them warm for the rest of their life.

Mobs share vision I believe, so if one spots you, chances are the rest will see you. A more dangerous aspect of hiding comes into play when an NPC tries to perform a skill such as taunt on you as you're hiding. The NPC will procede to lock in on you like a missle as it attempts to close distance with you to taunt you. Those can really ruin your day. Also, some of the monsters in the very epic areas have Bioware Original True Sight, which will definately ruin your day.
Serving NS4 proper as Lathander and Sleeth as Bahamut.

Yes, I'm a DM, but your build still sucks.

This also occurs with Invisbility and certain mobs--most frequently the neversummer city guards

Actually it occures with all mobs for me. Invis is only good for 50% conceal after initiating combat.

Yeah, but I get chased before combat, while I'm still fully invisible (invis icon in top right) a lot too.

I have noticed the same thing. It occurs mostly with animals though. They run up like they are going to attack and its like they suddenly go uh-oh I am not supposed to see them and stop, except for the wolves either mirk or arctic they seem to get off their breath attack before they "dont" attack you. I am guessing that is a failure in the game mechanics on bioware side of the house. It looks like they couldn't make invisibility work they way it should and put a kind of "if condition A exists then do B" thing. I have also noticed that just about all creatures will actually look at you when you go by either invis'd or stealthed. Kinda funky I think.

actually NS4's advanced AI script tell the creature something went by. if you get to close to a creature while invised its like passing a player, they see you and auto attack because you got too close. the bioware AI kicks in when they follow you across the screen just to stand and look stupid.

My only problem with the AI is when you run to the otherside of the area, can't see the creature anymore, cast invis, but then it STILL follows you no matter what.

Also, doesn't Listen skill give you a good chance of detecting an invisible target?
