[quote]The bigest reason they should be evil is that they are kind of the arch enemy of pallys yet most of em are neutral hence immune to smite.....

what about black guards?

they should be evil because they command undead...and i don't care what you argue, command of undead is inherently evil. your intentions may be neutral but your path makes you evil.

*me looks for what happened to the nerf stick*..one of these days i'm gonna find it somewhere.

black guards are supposed to be like anti pally's..but they aren't, so they're not. its complicated and simple at the same time ;).

Ebenezer Grymm wrote:As far as Pale Masters go, they are partially undead, and undead are inherently evil, so PMs should be evil also. Thats kind of a common and agreed upon line of thinking.

But further than that, if lets say we take the "make PMs more like undead" route, should they also get a little resistance to slash and pierce, and a little vulnerablility to bludge?

Maybe a little resistance to cold dmg, but an equal amt. of vulnerability to fire?

Just tossing some stuff around, what'dya think?
Personally I think all prestige classes should be shifted to 3.5 pnp stats (because they have all been balanced), As for your suggesions pale masters aren't necessarily evil because according to their description in libris mortis they are usually the servant of a more powerful evil. :) Couldn't resist.

As for the slashing/pierc suggestion, well you'd have to become a skeleton, and therefore lose all of your casting abilities, unless you could convince the dm's to make you a lich. In which case I've got a half-fiend/half-vampire janni I'd like to create.

I would like to say the changes are reasonable. However, given the focus on an almost roleplayable element being introduced, if palemasters receive 50% vulnerability to divine damage and 25% vulnerability to fire then the reverse should be allowed as well. By this I mean they should receive a 25% immunity to cold. There is no divine damage opposite so I think this is a reasonable suggestion/tweak?

Do existing palemasters go to Garagoth and have their alignment shifted to evil of their choice via some altar/statue or alignment-change rod or is this change only affecting new palemasters?

I disagree with the divine vulnerability
divine beings come in good neutral and evil and divine damage (IMO) should always just be, things should niether be vulnerable nor resistant to it
palemasters should be vulnerable to positive, not divine

I second this. It would also make greater ruin more useful in duels.

And destruction and hammer of the gods etc.

But something we can not forget is, this is not DnD this is NWN, so even though I agree Divine damage is not good/neutral or evil in alignment it can be all of the above, we are playing a NWN PW not a PnP tabletop.

So I think the change is fine.

Positive was considered, but divine was preferred for practical reasons.
Positive is pretty much only done in decent amounts by epic spells, which are available to all casters, while Divine is a signature damage type for divine casters, particularly paladins and clerics which are the archetypal 'anti-undead' classes.
Divine spellcasters can indeed be good, neutral or evil, but all are known for their mastery over undead.
