Naming your toon after a sick killer

When I seen the name BTK, well, I thought "I'll kind of just ignore that, sick yes, but , whatever".

Then I see the name John Wayne Gacy. That's sick. He raped and killed kids. Why would anyone want to bring that name to light, for any reason.

It's beyond me. &(

I remember one who was angry at DMs and tried to get their attention and prolly ban by using a german name alluding the Nazis. Apparently didn't work. There are a lot silly names around. I just ignore them. Sometimes prefering even not to party with them...

But thanks for bringing this up. I'm pretty sure I know from which corner this stupidity is coming from too.

you clowns need to get over it and move on or move ALONG - go somewhere else my god dont you even consider those that lost their lives to this maniac - glorifiying him, your all tough guys and big shots.

SkotG had asked in another thread about lines and being politically correct after I had posted about Gave Digga's name.

Now here is why i did that post. If you don't have a lines somewhere you start getting disgusting names like John Wayn Gacy logging into game. Glorifying a mass murders, what's happening here? Can we look forward to names like "Ted Bundy", "Hitler" or a Canadian one "Robert Pickton"?

Or is someone from the former M.D. trying to test DuptyDog's statement about doing a server wipe.

If a particular name offends you, hunt it down and kill it. In a kind of vigilante/frontier justice kinda way. Swift and horrible vengeance...what a way to start your day.

Nah its not about gameplay here Lorkar. Its about sensitivity and common sense. These names need to go.

It has been my experience that common sense is not common at all, as a matter fact it should be renamed ultra-rare sense. I wasn't really talking about gameplay but of the players doing something about it. Otherwise nothing can or will be done since the names do not contain names of obscenities or sexual terms(I do not include offensive because that it ones own opinion). While the "serial" names are in poor taste, it is a matter of taste after all. Some of these may bother some while others won't bat an eye. To myself it is just a name but then I haven't been personally affected by the tragedies those names have created. I think you find most on this server will not grasp the gravity of using such names due to age or country of origin(as most in the US won't recognize serial killers from outside the US) and as a result don't see the problem in using them. The best way I have seen to deal with this in the past was to ignore them. Eventually they all get sick of it and move on to greener pastures.

I'm afraid America is on the skids. I wish I could write this off to childishly bad taste, but I really can't. I mean we have people walking into schools and universities killing students, we have gangs all over the place, we have movie after movie centering on murder and mayhem, we have a very popular form of "music" (and I use that term very loosely here) celebrating the "gangsta" lifestyle. Someone naming his toon after an infamous seriel killer is just a sign of the times.

You know, if your car is knocking badly and black smoke is pouring out of the exhaust pipe, you don't say: "Hmmm...that's interesting." You say: "Something is terribly wrong with my car. I better have it looked at." But we're not doing that. We're saying "Hmmm...that is odd. Ah...to each his own."

I guess a clear warning of what was to come could have been seen in a photograph taken years ago (and this is an FYI freebie). I don't remember where I saw it, whether in a book or magazine or somewhere else, but I saw a published photograph of Gacy (who was a political bigwig in Chicago) standing arm in arm with then First Lady Rosalynn Carter. That has got to be one of the most disturbing pictures I have ever seen - surreal and horrific at the same time. It speaks volumes though, doesn't it?

In response to Lorkar: I agree with most of your points, however when someone brings up the name of a child rapist/murderer as a chosen toon name, that's too much. He didn't assualt bums, prostitutes, etc..etc..
He assaulted children! Little kids! I have four kids of my own. One of whom you all know quite well, lol. Maybe that will explain to you why I took exception that.

the fact that people cry about anothers name makes me laugh. people get offended over the most trivial things, its like you want to find something to offend you,..... like your jesse jackson or something.... "oh yeah thats a good one"

Close minded??? about serial killers and child murderers? You from down under, bub? If so I can understand your attitude, considering Australia was originally a penal colony, maybe you have some of those figures in your family history.
But it is reassuring that you can always find the best possible time to put your foot in your mouth.

As to earlier posts it doesn't matter if they were kids, bums or prostitutes or even politicians (although that might be a judgment call) for that matter, they are all people. And as such, all deserve to live out their lives to their natural ends. Except lawyers...
