Epic Light and Medium Armours

Post by Kirg »

To get them more used, I suggest to give them some decent regeneration or other special features at epic lvls. For that matter I still have to find a +6 one other than the bard leather from HoD.

Pretty please :).

P.S. Oh and a handaxe +6 or better would be nice too... Actually for that matter there isn't a decent +5 either...

I've a Bard that uses Light Armor, and I'm pretty sure a lot of players use Light Armor as well. Its the Medium Armor that nobody really goes for.

i agree to this, my bard uses light armour and i also have a toon that uses medium but its lvl 25 crap. There definately needs to be more higher level light and medium i think come to think of it maybe a new string of heavies too

yes but the dexers would still rule the day, so you would just have toons with good medium armor getting owned

So what, the armours won't be only used against dexers... Thanks for your input, as usual very constructive...

Yes in a world where 70 + ac seems to be the norm a str8t ftr can barely get over 60 w/out ranks in tumble, perhaps the armor situation could be improved upon a little.

yeah... medium armors don't work out so well, you need to have some DEX to fill out the dex bonus or be able to buff dex.. and even so in most cases heavy works out 1 or 2 or more ac...

I'd say the best fix might be to make some +7 and +8 AC medium armors.. to balance things out.

ie: the Death Giant med. armor is nice, but should be +7 or +8 to be more appealing.

Max AC of different armour types:

Code: Select all

Type | Max AC | Required Dex
Full Plate | 9 | 12
Chainmail | 7 | 14
Scale Mail | 8 | 18
Hide Armour | 7 | 18
Leather Armour | 8 | 22
Padded Armour | 9 | 26
Robes | infinite | infinite
Half Plate and Splint Mail excluded due to uselessness.

they're fairly similar. Scale Mail isn't bad compared to full plate, especially since by high levels even if you started with average dex you'll be able to get the required amount with items.

IMO the problem is that if you're worried about arcane spell failure or skill penalty, then you'll wear light armour at best. If you're not worried about those things then you'll wear the best armour you can, which given the number of classes proficient in it is usually full plate.

But as a barbarian ie. I don't want to take heavy armour proficiency. It would be nice if we had some more medium armours to chose from. Although I have to admit I didn't know about the death giant one.

thank you my comment was very constructive actualy, i was pointing out the fact that unless you make uber medium armor your wasting your time.... because in the end this isnt a roleplay server and only a hand full of players care about such things. most care about being the most powerful pvp. so in a world of warriors the guy who wants to be differnt gets owned. end of story

Hmm.. Bink, I'm not sure what that armor chart is talking about? Those 'max ac' values seem a bit whacky...

Going from 'real' world gear available in Ns4, you can see that except for robes with high dex bonuses, the +6 plate armor wins for highest AC, and you don't have to worry about keeping your DEX up:

Code: Select all

(NAME)------(baseAC)(bonusAC)(dexAC) = (final AC)

Chanter's---- 2 +6 +6(dex22) = 14
Death-------- 4 +4 +6(dex22) = 14
Ragnar's----- 8 +6 +1(dex12) = 15
Lich King---- 7 +6 +1(dex12) = 14
HeavyRobes--- 1 +5 +8(dex26) = 14
Water Lord--- 0 +6 +18(dex44) = 24
So the conclusion I come to is to make medium/light armor more competitive with heavy - all you need to do is make some +7's and PRESTO.. same ac as +6 heavy, +8 if you want to give a slight edge to med/light. Which would be a nice trade-off for arcane failure in a bard armor.

And yes jebby, making bad build choices will get you owned...but what else would you expect?
