race damage reduction question
race damage reduction question
Does Earth Gen damage reduction work/stack with with Epic Damage Reduction feats?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: race damage reduction question
No, it dos not stak with barb damage reduction or epic damge reduction.. Atleast it did not do so pre wipe when I had a pure barb with epic dmg reduction. It might have changed now that erthgen has changed tho.

Why would I want to count 12 hours twice? I’m perfectly capable of counting to 24, and while we’re at it, can someone go shoot named time zones. GMT+x is all we need!

Re: race damage reduction question
it definitely does NOT stack post wipe. so woe to the builder who picks earth gen for the con in order to qualify for epic dr feats. since earth gen goes to 10 dr and feats go to 9, the feats are a complete waste.
Re: race damage reduction question
Are you sure? One is damage resistance and the other is damage reduction... they used to stack. The earth genasi ability amount and duration has been changed, but its the same type of effect... so unless Bioware changed something, it should be the same as it was before.

Re: race damage reduction question
i ran a few tests on it with on a toon with dr from barb and feats greater than the dr provided by the genasi token (i.e. i got more dr from class abilities and feats than were granted by the genasi power). combat log showed the damage reduction from the feats but none from the earth genasi dr. tested with no armor or shield. so the feats are worthwhile if you have an additional source of dr, but then the token becomes useless except for the +2 ac over an ammy.LinuxPup wrote:Are you sure? i dont remember how it worked with the genasi dr back when my class/feat dr was lower than the genasi. i dont recall how it worked pre-wipe either, though i did have a guy with that combo on reflections.
Re: race damage reduction question
That is strange because the Epic DR feats, and the Barbarian damage reduction are of the nature #/- and the Earth Gen is #/+#. Which used to be counted as seperate types of damage reduction... would really blow if they didnt stack, they most definently should

Re: race damage reduction question
blows even more to run that experiment in your mid 30s, and come to the realization that your build could have been the exact same with an ecl 0 race. bwahaha

Re: race damage reduction question
Damage reduction in general does NOT stack.
Barbarian damage reduction, dwarven defender damage reduction and epic damage reduction DO stack.
Although the reduction for barb, dd, and epic is expressed as #/-, the ' - ' in this instance just means all enhancements are affected. It is still reduction and not resistance and therefore would NOT stack with other reduction.

Confusion is just a state of mind.

Re: race damage reduction question
How would the spell Epic Warding fit into all of this? I was thinking of making something with that as well as the epic damage reduction feats.

Re: race damage reduction question
Well my argument is that in 3.0 damage reductions of different types stack, types being #/-, #/+#, #/silver, etc.
So a character with . . .
10/- DR
5/+8 DR
2/silver DR
would negate 2 damage from each non silver weapon to hit it, plus 5 from each non +8 weapon to hit it, and 10 more frome very physical attack. So the best you could hope for is a +8 silver weapon to break through all but 10 DR. How NWN implements this is less known to me, from some experiments (done a while back in NWN days) reported all this to work as it says.

I haven't actually played PnP with anything past 2.0 rules and actually mostly with what I suppose could be described as 1.0 with local rules, but I do have a copy of the 3.5 DM guide and those rules clearly state that in 3.5 DR does not stack as you describe.
In fact PnP had nothing to do the with the rules as I stated, but are simply my understanding of the way the NWN game engine works.
Spells would typically fit into the do NOT stack category, but I am not sure how NWN actually handles Epic Warding.Quiett wrote:How would the spell Epic Warding fit into all of this? I was thinking of making something with that as well as the epic damage reduction feats.

Re: race damage reduction question
Yes Damage Reduction got a huge overhaul in 3.5, which is why I said 3.0. I dont have my 3.5 books around anywhere to look it up to see the differences anymore

Re: race damage reduction question
I tried it out with my L31 earth gen pure fighter, who, sadly, has EDRIII, and the help of a firendly DD who was HAPPY to wail on my FoN tagged toon
I'd post the screen shots if I knew how (Kim posted nice instructions, but I'm an idiot), but with him totally naked and the fighter and EG tokens activated, battle log showed only 9 damage reduced. I guess you still get the AC boost and it took the better DR, but basically 3 feats for 2 HP DR. Bummer.
